Canberra Set to Shine with New Convention and Entertainment Centre

ACT, Australia

Article: The ACT Government has announced funding in the 2024-25 budget for the continued planning and development of a new Canberra Convention and Entertainment Centre. The centre will be part of an events and entertainment precinct in the southeast of the CBD, replacing the current ageing convention centre and Canberra Olympic Pool sites. Concept designs for an integrated live music, events, and performance space will be developed to fill a gap in the city’s current indoor event facilities. The Government will also invest in site investigations and concept designs for a replacement of the Canberra Olympic Pool to provide aquatic facilities for the city’s growing population in Commonwealth Park. The Convention and Entertainment Centre is a key city-shaping project that will define the city centre, according to ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr. The project is not only an important asset for the local tourism and business sector but also a much-needed entertainment centre to make Canberra a more attractive tour option for live music and entertainment. As Canberra’s population approaches half a million people, the Government is working towards building the city’s future.
