Duplication of Athllon Drive in Tuggeranong to Start with $8.6 Million Budget

ACT, Australia

The 2024-25 ACT Budget has allocated $8.6 million as part of a 50:50 funding agreement with the Australian Government to commence works on the duplication of Athllon Drive in Tuggeranong. The project aims to relieve congestion and improve safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

Athllon Drive is a popular road that connects Woden to Tuggeranong, with two rapid bus routes and nearly 2,000 vehicles using the road during peak hours. The duplication of 2.4 kilometres of Athllon Drive between Sulwood Drive and Drakeford Drive is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in the area.

In addition to the road duplication, the project will also see the construction of new walking and cycling path connections, path widening, and new lighting. The first works on the northern section of the duplication will commence this year, including the widening of the Shea Street intersection in Phillip to support access to the future Woden Bus Depot.

The ACT Government has also committed to investing in road maintenance and new road projects across the ACT. This includes funding for the Beltana Road Upgrade in Pialligo and Gundaroo Drive Duplication in Belconnen, as well as new investment in active travel infrastructure.

The investment in Athllon Drive, along with other road and active travel projects in the 2024-25 Budget, is part of a program of investment in the services and infrastructure needed for Canberra’s growing population. The ACT Government is committed to building the infrastructure Canberra needs, while also maintaining and upgrading the existing network.
