Transport for NSW is offering a valuable opportunity for parents and carers in Bathurst and Lithgow to have their child car seats checked for free. With the alarming statistic that two in three child passengers are not seated in an appropriately restrained child car seat, it is crucial to ensure that these seats are fitted correctly.

According to Transport for NSW Director Regional Community Partner Holly Davies, the consequences of improper restraint can be life-threatening. Children who are not properly restrained are seven times more likely to sustain severe injuries in the event of a crash.

To address this issue, Transport for NSW is conducting free child car seat checks in Bathurst and Lithgow. These checks aim to provide parents and carers with up-to-date information on laws, types of restraints available, and how to transition children from one type to the next as they grow older.

The experts conducting the checks will also identify common mistakes made in fitting child car seats, such as improperly tightened straps, unchecked clips, and loose bolts that may require replacement.
