Payroll jobs rose in all states and territories between mid-February and mid-March, with the largest increases seen in the Northern Territory, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, and Tasmania.

Despite this, the most populous states of New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland accounted for the majority (76 percent) of the total rise in payroll jobs over the month.

Over the past year, payroll jobs have increased in all states and territories, with the healthcare and social assistance sector being the primary contributor to job growth in each jurisdiction, except for the Australian Capital Territory, where the public administration and safety sector took the lead.

Overall, while the growth in payroll jobs remains modest, the education and healthcare sectors continue to play a crucial role in driving employment opportunities in Australia.
