Dublin to Host 12th IEA Global Conference on Energy Efficiency in May 2027
The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the government of Ireland will co-host the 12th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency at Dublin Castle on 24–25 May 2027, according to an announcement by IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol and Irish Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O’Brien.
The invitation-only event is set to bring together senior figures from government, business, and finance, alongside international policy experts. Previous conferences held in Versailles, Nairobi, Brussels, and Montreal drew approximately 600 participants from roughly 100 countries.
The meeting takes place as governments evaluate energy strategies following global market disruptions, including recent shocks in the Strait of Hormuz, the 2022 energy crisis linked to the war in Ukraine, and strains caused by severe weather events. According to the IEA, energy efficiency measures are central to lowering consumer costs, reducing market volatility, and supporting energy security and industrial competitiveness.
Birol stated that energy efficiency is critical for easing supply pressures and lowering costs for households and businesses. O’Brien noted that the event aligns with Ireland's EU Council Presidency, during which the country plans to focus on electrification, energy security, and the deployment of renewable energy.
The 2027 conference aims to transition from policy commitments—such as pledges made at the 2026 conference in Montreal—toward practical implementation. The agenda will feature high-level panels, thematic discussions, closed-door meetings, and a youth award. Topics slated for discussion include the role of efficiency in crisis response, as well as the impact of digitalisation, artificial intelligence, data centres, buildings, and industrial sectors on energy demand.
Additional details regarding the event programme, speakers, and participation will be released on the conference website ahead of the event.
