A group of employers recently participated in an immersion program at Kapooka and RAAF Base Wagga to observe the training and skills of Australian Defence Force reservists, the Department of Defence announced on 2 October 2026.

Organised by the ADF Reserves and Employer Support team, the event was designed to show civilian employers the commitments and capabilities associated with reserve service. The program commenced at Kapooka, known as the 'Home of the Soldier', where attendees observed military routines.

During the visit, participants toured platoon lines, observed live-fire training involving the EF88 Austeyr rifle, and watched foundation field training alongside a ceremonial parade rehearsal. Employers also participated in an obstacle course overseen by physical training instructors.

The itinerary included a tour of RAAF Base Wagga and the Aviation Heritage Centre, where attendees received briefings on aviation history from Royal Australian Air Force personnel. The event concluded with a networking dinner at the Officers' Mess, allowing employers from various industries to discuss supporting reservists within civilian work environments.

According to Defence, the initiative aimed to strengthen relationships between the military and industry while highlighting the connection between military training and civilian employment.
