A 43-year-old Sydney man was sentenced on 2 October 2026 at Parramatta Local Court for sending offensive emails to a Commonwealth official, according to the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

The man was sentenced to three months and three days of imprisonment, which resulted in his release based on time served. He was also placed on a 12-month Community Correction Order and a 12-month Conditional Release Order, subject to completing 100 hours of community service.

The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team launched an investigation in May 2026 after the abusive emails were sent to the official between February and May 2026. Authorities arrested the man on 23 June 2026 at a Wentworthville home.

He subsequently pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to menace, harass, or cause offence, in violation of section 474.1(1) of the Criminal Code (Cth).

According to the AFP, the NSI teams were established in October 2025 by AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett to address individuals and groups causing high levels of harm to Australia's social cohesion, including targeting the Jewish community.
