Amendments to the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Regulations 2011 have taken effect as of 1 October 2026, expanding the eligibility threshold for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).
Under the updated regulations, the capacity limit for eligible solar PV systems has been increased from 100 kW up to 1 MW. The change applies to eligible mid-scale solar systems installed starting on 1 October 2026.
According to the Clean Energy Regulator, applications under the expanded scheme are anticipated to open in mid to late November 2026. Systems installed on or after the 1 October effective date will be eligible to submit applications once the application process officially opens.
