Police Renew Appeal to Locate Missing Elderly Man Last Seen on Mid North Coast
New South Wales police are renewing appeals for public assistance to find 81-year-old John Flynn, who went missing on Friday, 2 October 2026, on the state's Mid North Coast.
Flynn was last seen near Taree Railway Station on Whitbread Street in Taree at around 10:30 a.m. Officers attached to the Manning/Great Lakes Police District were notified and launched inquiries after he could not be located or contacted. Police and his family have expressed serious concerns for his welfare because he lives with a medical condition.
Investigators believe Flynn may have later visited the Pacific Highway near The Lakes Way Interchange in Rainbow Flat around 11:30 a.m. on the same day. Police noted he may be travelling south in a vehicle.
Flynn is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 150cm and 155cm tall, of thin build, with grey hair. He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, a black jacket, and cream-coloured pants, and was carrying a large black backpack.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact Manning/Great Lakes Police District or Crime Stoppers.
