Three Teenagers Charged After Police Officer Struck by Allegedly Stolen Vehicle in Ashwood
Three teenagers have been charged after a police officer was struck by an allegedly stolen vehicle in Ashwood early Saturday morning, according to Victoria Police.
Officers were tracking a black Mercedes Benz SUV when it was located in Gubbah Court at approximately 2:15 a.m. Police allege that as they moved in, the SUV drove out of the court and mounted the footpath, striking a female first constable and launching her several metres down the road.
The vehicle sped away before crashing into a fence at the corner of Jordan Street and Salisbury Road. With assistance from the police Air Wing, officers arrested three teenagers—aged 15, 16, and 17, all from the Casey area.
The officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
According to police, the SUV had been allegedly stolen during a home invasion in Cranbourne East roughly 30 minutes before the Ashwood incident.
Detectives from the Casey Crime Investigation Unit have charged the three youths with multiple offences, including home invasion, aggravated reckless exposure of a police officer to risk by driving, dangerous driving while pursued by police, and assaulting police. They are scheduled to appear before a Children's Court.
Investigators are continuing to examine the incident and are searching for two additional suspects believed to have fled the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
