Macquarie University has continued its upward trajectory in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings, placing 149 spots higher than it did a decade ago. The newest edition of the global assessment evaluated 2,297 research-intensive institutions across 118 countries and territories.

The updated ranking follows last year's performance, in which the institution reached 166th globally and recorded its highest-ever position among Australian universities. The Times Higher Education rankings evaluate universities across several core areas, including teaching, research, research environment, industry engagement, and international outlook.

Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton stated that the outcome reflects the institution's progress across its research, education, healthcare, and partnership initiatives. Dowton noted that the university's climb of nearly 150 places over ten years is a significant milestone driven by its researchers, educators, staff, and students.

According to the announcement, the 2027 rankings represent the most inclusive edition of the Times Higher Education global rankings to date, assessing a record number of higher education institutions worldwide.
