Affordable Uniforms Helping To Slash The Cost Of Living

Australia, VIC

Article: The Allan Labor Government has implemented the Affordable School Uniforms Program to support over 23,000 government school students in Victoria. The program aims to alleviate the financial burden on families and ensure that every student feels valued and included at school. The rising cost of living has led to a significant increase in applications for the program, with a 21% rise compared to the previous year. Since 2015, the Labor Government has invested more than $75 million in the program, supplying more than 1.9 million uniforms and essential school items to over 540,000 students. Eligible families facing short-term crises or long-term chronic needs, such as financial hardship, homelessness, or family violence, can receive support from the program. The Victorian Budget 2023/24 has allocated $32.9 million for the Affordable School Uniforms Program, demonstrating the government’s commitment to assisting families with education-related expenses. Additionally, the Government’s Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund provides further support to ensure that disadvantaged students can actively participate in school events and activities. Minister for Education Ben Carroll emphasized the importance of these programs in making education affordable and inclusive for all students.
