Article:

The Legacy Committee for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games recently convened to discuss important legacy planning opportunities. Chaired by Minister for State Development and Infrastructure, Grace Grace, the committee met to receive updates on the Games and share views on the implementation planning outlined in the Elevate 2042 legacy strategy.

The committee, which advises the Miles Government on statewide legacy opportunities, consists of members with diverse knowledge and experiences, all working towards delivering for the people of Queensland. Previously chaired by Stirling Hinchliffe, the former Minister for Tourism, Innovation, and Sport, the committee has met six times since its formation in July 2022.

Elevate 2042, released last year, serves as a crucial foundation for the Legacy Committee’s advice to the government. As implementation planning progresses, the committee will identify priority programs, projects, and initiatives to ensure a lasting and valuable benefit for the community, economy, and environment.

Minister Grace emphasized the committee’s commitment to leveraging the Games to create a maximum impact for Queensland’s communities. The Legacy Committee will continue its work in collaboration with the new Delivery Authority, which focuses on delivering venues for the Games and beyond.

The committee will hold a workshop later this month and schedule its next full meeting in September, following the Paris 2024 Games. The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games present a unique opportunity to transform vision into reality, leaving a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
