Article: An Ethiopian-born man is set to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court today, facing charges of failing to comply with the conditions of his visa. The 61-year-old man was apprehended by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) in Sydney on July 10, 2024. According to the AFP, the man allegedly violated one of the conditions of his Commonwealth visa by coming within 200m of a school or childcare center.

The individual has been charged with eight counts of failing to comply with the requirements of his bridging visa, as stated in section 76DAB(1) of the Migration Act 1958(Cth). This offense carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of $93,900.
