EU Allocates €125 Million in Humanitarian Aid for Most Vulnerable in Yemen

Article: The European Union has pledged €125 million in new humanitarian funding to provide assistance to the most vulnerable people in Yemen. This commitment comes as the country faces a decade-long conflict, escalating tensions, displacement, and climate emergencies. The funding will be channeled through the EU’s humanitarian partners, including UN agencies and NGOs actively involved in the response.

The aid will address critical needs such as food security, malnutrition, health services, specialized protection services, and demining activities. Additionally, dedicated programs for education and child protection will be supported. The EU has recognized the urgent health crisis in Yemen and has already organized 13 Humanitarian Air Bridge flights to deliver aid, with plans for an additional 24 flights this month.

Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, emphasized the importance of providing life-saving assistance to the innocent people of Yemen who have been severely affected by the conflict, economic collapse, natural hazards, and disease outbreaks. Approximately 18.2 million people, more than half of Yemen’s population, are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection services.

The European Union has been a steadfast supporter of the people of Yemen, contributing nearly €1.5 billion since 2015 to address the humanitarian crisis. While a political solution is crucial, immediate and sustained humanitarian interventions are necessary to alleviate the suffering and provide the much-needed support to the Yemeni people.
