Green Light for Gungahlin’s New Tennis Hub

ACT, Australia

Article: After years of planning and community consultation, the Development Application for the Gungahlin Tennis Facility in Amaroo has been approved. The new tennis facility, which will be built off Horse Park Drive, will feature 10 full-size tennis courts, two hot shot courts, a hitting wall, pavilion, LED lighting, carparking, and landscaping. Sport and Recreation Minister Yvette Berry said the tennis facility is a response to the growing needs of the sport in one of the fastest-growing regions in Australia. The facility is being built in partnership with Tennis Australia and Tennis ACT and will host a range of programs, including Hot Shots Tennis and schools’ programs, Book A Court, Cardio Tennis, Adult Social, Junior and Senior Canberra Tennis League, and all abilities programs. “The facility will assist in increasing participation and developing young participants through Tennis Australia’s established tennis pathways,” said Minister Berry. Tennis ACT CEO Mark La Brooy said, “After a number of years of planning, community consultation, Estate Development Planning and now the approval of the development application, this sees the realisation of a vital piece of infrastructure that will bring tennis to one of the important growth corridors in the ACT.” The next step will be to engage a construction contractor, with work scheduled to begin after that.
