Article:

In a powerful display of solidarity and commitment to road safety, iconic landmarks across South Australia will be bathed in yellow lights this week. This striking visual tribute is part of the National Road Safety Week, which aims to raise awareness about road trauma and encourage responsible behavior behind the wheel.

Adelaide’s renowned landmarks, including the Riverbank Bridge, O-Bahn tunnel, Entertainment Centre, Convention Centre, and Parliament House, will be illuminated throughout the week. In regional areas, the City of Port Lincoln will light up Tasman Terrace, while the Kadina Town Hall and the ‘Elemental’ sculpture in Victor Harbor will also glow in yellow.

The illumination serves as a poignant reminder of the lives lost on South Australian roads and sends a clear message to motorists that road safety is everyone’s responsibility. This year’s theme, “As all road safety is local, drive so others survive,” emphasizes the need for extra caution, particularly around vulnerable road users like pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

To further promote road safety, South Australians are encouraged to take the National Road Safety Week pledge. By committing to drive as if their loved ones are on the road ahead, removing distractions, and avoiding speeding, fatigue, and impaired driving, individuals can contribute to safer roads for all.

The South Australian State Government has made substantial investments, allocating over a quarter of a billion dollars over five years to enhance road safety. Recent funding of $37 million has been directed towards pedestrian and cycling safety upgrades, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to reducing road trauma.

Dan Cregan, a representative of the State Government, highlighted the significance of National Road Safety Week in bringing attention to the devastating impact of road trauma on families, friends, and the wider community. He emphasized the need for collective action to make South Australian roads safer
