Landmarks Light Up As Hundreds Walk For Road Safety

Some of Victoria’s most iconic buildings will be illuminated yellow this coming week, in memory and support of those who have been impacted by road trauma. Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne today joined hundreds of Victorians who gathered at Melbourne’s Albert Park at the Amber Community’s annual Shine a Light on Road Safety walk.

Throughout the week, iconic buildings will be lit up in the campaign’s trademark yellow – including Melbourne Town Hall, Flinders Street Station, the Bolte Bridge, Box Hill Town Hall, the CityLink Sound Tube, and 101 Collins Street.

The campaign, which coincides with National Road Safety Week, comes off the back of a tragic start to 2024 with 96 lives lost on Victorian roads so far this year. The Allan Labor Government is working with the Federal Government to roll out vital safety upgrades across nearly 200 sites and routes across the state as part of a $457 million Road Safety Program.

Amber Community, which is supported by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), provides counseling and support services to more than 3000 Victorians affected by road trauma.
