Massive Liquid Methamphetamine Bust in Melbourne,

Australia, Police

Article: In a joint operation between the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Victoria Police, and the US Department of Homeland Security, authorities have intercepted a massive consignment of liquid methamphetamine destined for Melbourne. The illicit drugs, weighing a staggering 312kg, were cleverly concealed inside two black drums labeled as ‘vegetable fluid oil’. The seizure marks a significant victory in the ongoing battle against drug smugglers.

Operation Tallow, which commenced in July 2023, was initiated when Homeland Security Investigations special agents and US Customs and Border Protection officers at Los Angeles International Airport identified the consignment bound for Australia. Acting swiftly, the AFP and US law enforcement agencies coordinated efforts to seize the drugs and closely monitor their delivery to Australia.

Upon arrival in Australia, the consignment was held in storage for two weeks before it was expected to be delivered to a rural property in Victoria. However, the delivery did not occur as planned, leading to the execution of search warrants at multiple locations in Melbourne and Brisbane by AFP investigators. Although no charges have been laid yet, the investigation remains ongoing.

AFP Detective Superintendent Kristie Cressy emphasized the significance of international law enforcement partnerships in combating drug-related crimes. She stated, “Our common goal is to keep illicit drugs off our streets and prevent greedy and opportunistic criminals from benefiting from their illegal activities. The AFP and its partner agencies work harder to detect concealments of any nature.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the importation or suspicious activity in the vicinity of Tooborac to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers. The cooperation between the AFP and the US Department of Homeland Security underscores the shared commitment to global crime prevention and the accountability of criminal organizations involved in drug smuggling.

This successful operation serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to keep communities safe and highlights the importance of public assistance in apprehending individuals involved in illicit drug trade. The AFP, Victoria Police, and their international partners remain steadfast in their resolve to dismantle criminal networks and prevent dangerous drugs from reaching the streets.
