Article: The Victorian government has announced the completion of the new Snobs Creek Fish Conservation Hatchery, a $2.7 million facility aimed at preserving and recovering threatened fish species in the region. The hatchery, which is part of the government’s efforts to combat the decline of Victoria’s native plants and animals, will be open to visitors from this weekend.

Minister for Outdoor Recreation, Steve Dimopoulos, expressed his excitement about the completion of the hatchery, stating that it ensures a bright future for threatened species in Victorian waters for generations to come. The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) will operate the hatchery in conjunction with its existing production facilities at Snobs Creek.

The hatchery is funded by the Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action, the Victorian Environmental Water Holder, and the Albanese Labor Government. Additionally, the Labor Government has invested $5 million in building a Macquarie perch captive breeding centre, further contributing to the conservation efforts.

Locals and visitors will have the opportunity to tour the new facility at the Snobs Creek Fish Hatchery open day on May 5th. The open day aims to showcase the important work being done to boost native fish populations through research, habitat improvement, water for the environment, and translocations.

The completion of the Snobs Creek Fish Conservation Hatchery marks a milestone in the government’s commitment to preserving Victoria’s unique natural environment and ensuring the long-term sustainability of its fish populations.
