The NSW Information Commissioner, Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AM, has launched Right to Know Week NSW 2026, which runs from 28 September to 4 October 2026. The annual campaign aims to raise public awareness regarding the right to access government-held information and remind public sector agencies in New South Wales of their regulatory obligations.

The theme for the 2026 campaign is "Upholding Information Integrity in the Digital Age: The Role of Access to Information in Addressing Information Disorder." The focus addresses the challenges posed by the rapid creation and dissemination of content online, including the spread of misinformation and disinformation.

According to Commissioner Croucher, access to accurate and timely government information is essential for allowing the public to make informed decisions, verify claims, and understand government actions that affect their lives. She noted that maintaining transparency and open public institutions supports democratic accountability.

As part of the initiative, the Information and Privacy Commission NSW (IPC) is hosting a panel discussion featuring representatives from government and academia. The panel will examine how information access can strengthen community resilience against information disorder.

Commissioner Croucher called upon NSW government departments, local councils, universities, state-owned corporations, and ministers' offices to review their information access, publication, and management practices to support integrity across the public sector.

The IPC has coordinated Right to Know Week since 2014, supporting statutory rights and obligations established under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act).
