## Story

The New South Wales Government has announced a new rail timetable scheduled to take effect on 15 November, introducing expanded services and altered stopping patterns for passengers on the T4, T8, T2, and South Coast lines.

According to the government, the adjustments represent a major change to the rail network across Southern Sydney and the Illawarra. A key operational update involves separating the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line and the South Coast Line between Arncliffe and Central, providing each line with a dedicated express track to reduce bottlenecks and increase capacity.

On the T4 Line, morning peak citybound services will run every three minutes at Hurstville and every four minutes at Sutherland, with average 7.5-minute frequencies across multiple suburban stations. All T4 services will stop at Sydenham for Sydney Metro connections, while St Peters and Erskineville stations will be integrated into the T4 line. Direct access to Kogarah Station will also be provided for commuters from Loftus, Engadine, Heathcote, and Waterfall.

The T8 line will be renamed the T8 SYD Airport & South West Line, with all services operating via the Airport Tunnel through Green Square, Domestic Airport, and International Airport. Peak services between Green Square and Wolli Creek will run every four minutes on average. Consequently, passengers travelling from the South West will no longer have direct peak access to Sydenham, St Peters, Erskineville, and Redfern stations and will need to interchange at Wolli Creek.

On the South Coast Line, peak services between Wollongong and the Sydney CBD will increase from three to four trains per hour, while off-peak and weekend services will double to run every 30 minutes on average. The update includes more than 200 additional weekly services, stops at Sydenham for Metro connections, additional local trains between Wollongong and Thirroul, and the complete rollout of Mariyung trains.

Additionally, the T2 Leppington & Inner West Line will see inter-peak services currently terminating at Homebush extended to Parramatta, offering an all-stops service every 15 minutes between the Sydney CBD and Parramatta.

The government noted that while some journeys may take slightly longer due to revised stopping patterns, the timetable offers improved network connections and frequency. Further plans include reinstating Kogarah as an express stop in 2027. Transport for NSW has advised commuters to review the updated schedules prior to the commencement of the new timetable.
