## Story

The European Commission announced on 23 October 2026 that it is releasing an additional €22.5 million in humanitarian funding for Yemen to respond to renewed conflict escalation and rising humanitarian needs across the country. The newly announced funds supplement the €87.5 million previously allocated by the European Union for 2026.

According to the European Commission, the renewed military escalation in Yemen has caused mass displacement, increased civilian casualties, and disrupted access to basic services and aid delivery. The organization reported that nearly 230,000 individuals have been displaced in recent weeks, adding to widespread acute food insecurity, malnutrition, and shortages of safe water and healthcare.

The Commission stated that the additional funding will support humanitarian partner organizations in delivering life-saving assistance, pre-positioning critical supplies, reinforcing operational capacity, and improving preparedness for further deterioration. Priority focus areas include food security, nutrition, health, water, sanitation, hygiene, and protection, targeting vulnerable populations such as displaced families, women, children, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities.

Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law, halt attacks affecting civilians and essential infrastructure, and ensure humanitarian access.

The European Commission noted that more than a decade of conflict has left 22.3 million people in Yemen in need of humanitarian assistance and protection, with approximately 5.2 million internally displaced and over 2.2 million children under five suffering from acute malnutrition. Recent military strikes and escalations have affected critical civilian infrastructure, including Sana'a airport, power stations, and Red Sea ports, further disrupting the flow of essential supplies and humanitarian operations.
