Mount Isa Highway Patrol officers charged a 26-year-old Winston man following a traffic intercept in Mount Isa on September 26.

According to police, officers intercepted a red and blue Honda CBR600RR at approximately 11:20 a.m. after observing the motorcycle travelling at 194 km/h in a 100 km/h zone along the Barkly Highway.

The driver was issued a Traffic Infringement Notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 km/h. The notice incurred a $1,986 fine, the loss of eight demerit points, and a six-month licence suspension.

Following the incident, Mount Isa Highway Patrol Sergeant Aaron Cole urged drivers to exercise care when using rural and remote roads and highways, stating that officers will maintain proactive patrols and a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe driving.
