## Story

Officers in the newly established NSW Police Armed Response Command (ARC) are undergoing specialist medical training delivered by NSW Ambulance instructors ahead of the unit's operational launch on November 1, 2026, the NSW Police Force announced on October 14, 2026.

The ARC was established as a permanent, intelligence-led capability to respond rapidly to terrorism, armed threats, high-risk incidents, and emerging public safety risks. The command was created following the December 2025 terror attack at Bondi Beach.

Through the Tactical Medical First Responder training, ARC officers are being instructed to assess casualties, control life-threatening bleeding, and deliver immediate trauma care in dangerous and active threat environments. The program is designed to equip officers to treat critically injured victims before additional emergency services can safely enter the scene.

NSW Police stated that the joint training aims to improve interoperability between police and paramedics during active shooting and mass-casualty events, complementing existing multi-agency emergency exercises.

Alongside medical training, ARC officers are completing advanced driver training and general rifle courses. Once fully operational as a 24-hour response unit supported by a dedicated Police Operations Centre, the command will consist of 250 police officers and 28 civilian staff.
