International Criminal Court Releases Updated Spanish-Language Model Course
The International Criminal Court (ICC) launched an updated version of its Spanish-language Model Course on International Criminal Law and the ICC on 28 September 2026.
First introduced in 2020, the Curso modelo sobre Derecho Internacional Penal y Corte Penal Internacional serves as an educational tool for Spanish-speaking professors and academics teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The curriculum is organized into 16 weekly sessions and includes recommended open-source academic readings in Spanish.
According to the ICC, select course materials and readings can also be utilized for specialized postgraduate modules. These topics include modes of liability, evidence, witness and victim protection, and crimes committed against minors or based on gender.
The initial course design in 2019 and the 2026 updates were directed by Professor Héctor Olasolo. Olasolo serves as the President of the Ibero-American Institute of The Hague for Peace, Human Rights, and International Justice (IIH) and is a law professor at the Universidad del Rosario in Colombia.
The project is part of the ICC Academic Programme, an initiative intended to foster academic interest in the Court's operations and support international criminal justice education.
