South Australian Man Charged Over Alleged Online Threats to Police Officers
A 34-year-old South Australian man was arrested and charged on Thursday, 1 October 2026, following an investigation into alleged online threats made against police officers, according to a joint media release from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and South Australia Police.
The AFP's National Security Investigations (NSI) team launched an investigation in September after South Australia Police referred a series of social media posts. Authorities allege that the online posts advocated violence against police and contained threats directed at several senior officers.
On Thursday, AFP officers assisted by South Australia Police executed a search warrant at a residence located in the Mid North region, where the man was taken into custody.
He was charged under section 474.17 of the Criminal Code (Cth) with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, a charge carrying a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment.
The accused appeared in court on Friday, 2 October 2026, where bail was formally refused. He is next scheduled to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on 5 November 2026.
According to the AFP, the NSI teams were established in October 2025 to target individuals and groups deemed to cause high levels of harm to social cohesion in Australia.
