APRA Updates EFS Reporting Guidance to Consolidate Resources and Add Set-Off Account Rules
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) released an updated version of its reporting practice guide, RPG 701.0 ABS/RBA Reporting Concepts for the Economic and Financial Statistics (EFS) Collection, on 28 September 2026. The regulator stated that the revision aims to improve accessibility and consolidate all EFS guidance into a single resource.
The updated publication integrates all EFS frequently asked questions (FAQs) that were previously hosted separately on the regulator's website. Following the update, the existing standalone EFS FAQs on APRA's website will be retired. APRA noted that while most FAQs were merged into the guidance in 2024, the remaining items have now been placed at the end of the document with new numbering alongside their original reference numbers.
Specific revisions include changes to Section 1.5.5, which covers the identification of central borrowing authorities (CBAs) using information previously provided in FAQ 144. Additionally, Section 1.20 of the practice guide has been updated to incorporate new guidance regarding the treatment of set-off accounts.
The revised RPG 701.0 has also been reformatted to match APRA's style guidance and is accessible on the authority's website for authorised deposit-taking institutions and registered financial corporations.
