Four members of the NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) have returned to Australia following a six-week deployment supporting wildfire response operations across the United States and Canada. The deployment, which began in August, was conducted as part of Australia’s international emergency response efforts.

According to the NSW SES, the personnel were deployed through the National Resource Sharing Centre (NRSC), an initiative coordinated by the NSW Rural Fire Service. The members served in specialist Incident Management Team positions during the overseas operations.

Three of the personnel were deployed to the United States: Kim Ferguson of Tumbarumba served as a Facilities Officer, Veronica Vartolo of Wollongong served as a Finance Officer, and James Logan of Sydney served as a Supply Officer. Graeme Craig of Newcastle was deployed to Canada, where he also served as a Finance Officer.

NSW SES Commissioner Mike Wassing ASFM stated that the missions highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration during significant emergencies, adding that the personnel represented the agency and gained operational experience to support future emergency management in New South Wales.
