The UK is set to experience an increasingly unsettled week as a series of low-pressure systems bring wet and windy conditions across the country, leading the Met Office to issue a Yellow severe weather warning for wind in the south for Thursday night and Friday.

The early part of the week will see varying conditions. On Monday, showers in southwestern England and southern Wales are expected to clear westwards, while additional showers move north across northern England into southern Scotland. Sunny spells and mostly dry weather are forecast elsewhere. Rain will spread northwards across much of the UK overnight into Tuesday, though Northern Ireland and southwest England will see brighter intervals before another front brings heavier rain from the west by Tuesday evening, clearing eastwards through Wednesday.

Forecasters are monitoring a developing area of low pressure expected to impact the region toward the end of the week. The Yellow warning highlights the risk of wind gusts reaching 50 to 60 mph, with potential gusts up to 70 mph in exposed coastal areas.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tom Crabtree stated that the agency is focusing on the potential development of a deep low-pressure system crossing the UK overnight Thursday and through Friday. Crabtree noted that while the system has the potential to bring strong winds, the exact location of the most severe conditions will depend on the track and depth of the low.

Friday is expected to be widely wet and windy before the system moves into the North Sea by Friday afternoon. The departing low will draw colder air across the UK on Friday night and Saturday, ahead of another Atlantic front forecast to bring milder air and further rainfall.
