NSW Police, backed by the Minns Labor Government, have announced the launch of Operation Summer Foreshore across Brighton-Le-Sands and the waters of Botany Bay. The operation is scheduled to run from Saturday, 3 October 2026, to Sunday, 31 January 2027, focusing on maintaining public safety across the Grand Parade, local foreshores, parks, and surrounding roads during the busy summer period.

The high-visibility campaign aims to curb dangerous jet ski use, traffic offences, and antisocial behaviour on both land and water. Led by the St George Police Area Command, the initiative is supported by the Marine Area Command, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and the Central Metropolitan Region High-Visibility Policing Unit.

A preliminary operation was held on Saturday, 26 September 2026, between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm in the Brighton-Le-Sands area. Police reported maintaining a visible presence focused on crime prevention and community engagement, with no incidents of note recorded during the shift.

Authorities have issued reminders regarding maritime regulations for personal watercraft. Jet ski operators are required to hold valid licences, wear approved lifejackets, and obey speed limits, exclusion zones, and minimum distance requirements from people in the water. Regulations strictly prohibit irregular riding within 200 metres of the shoreline and ban personal watercraft operation between sunset and sunrise.

Police also noted that recreational vessel operators are subject to legal alcohol limits and random drug testing. Marine Area Command officers plan to carry out proactive patrols, vessel safety inspections, and impairment testing throughout the operation.

Members of the public who observe reckless or dangerous behaviour are encouraged to contact police, or call Triple Zero (000) in emergencies.
