Queensland Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a serious two-vehicle traffic crash on the Bruce Highway at Banya on Saturday afternoon.

According to preliminary police investigations, a southbound Hino flatbed truck collided with the rear of a southbound Volvo semi-trailer at approximately 1:15 p.m.

The driver and passenger of the Hino truck became trapped following the impact and were extricated by emergency personnel. The driver, a 57-year-old Crestmead man, sustained head and limb injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. A 50-year-old Jimboomba woman, who was a passenger in the truck, was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for treatment of a minor foot injury.

The sole occupant of the Volvo semi-trailer, a 27-year-old Goodna man, was not physically injured in the collision.

The southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway remained closed for approximately two and a half hours while the Forensic Crash Unit processed the scene. Police investigations into the cause of the incident are ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with relevant information or footage to come forward.
