Premier’s Reading Challenge 2024 Officially Launched,

Australia, QLD

The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) for Queensland schools and early childhood centers has been officially launched for 2024. The initiative, aimed at improving literacy and encouraging children to read for pleasure and learning, is open to state and non-state schools, home-educated students from Prep to Year 9, and children aged up to 5 years enrolled in an early childhood center.

Education Minister Di Farmer launched the 2024 PRC at Berserker Street State School in Rockhampton. Last year, over 110,000 children and students participated in the challenge, reading more than 1.5 million books across 889 schools and 323 early childhood centers.

Premier Steven Miles expressed his commitment to providing Queensland kids with the best start in life through education. The Premier’s Reading Challenge has been running since 2006 and continues to encourage children to develop a love for reading.

With official sponsors QSuper and MultiLit, as well as media partner The Courier-Mail, supporting the challenge, the government hopes to surpass last year’s participation numbers. The reading period for Prep to Year 9 students runs from May 7 to August 23, while the early childhood reading period is from August 12 to 23.
