Topics getting more coverage

Find topics and publishers producing more source reports than usual. This measures reporting activity, not reader popularity or a story’s importance.

How this is calculated

We compare the number of source reports in the past 24 hours with an equivalent period in the preceding 7 days. Counts include reports collected for publication, including articles scheduled to appear later. The linked articles below are already published.

We use the source’s report date where available, otherwise the time it was collected. Several reports can cover the same event. Topics, specific topics and publishers overlap, so their counts should not be added together.

The selection favours increases in report volume; it is not a complete list of topics. Very small previous counts are adjusted when ranking to avoid extreme comparisons.
