South Australians Gather to Honour Anzac Legacy on Anzac Day

Tomorrow, on April 25, 2024, South Australians will join the nation in a solemn gathering to pay tribute to the Anzac legacy and honor those who have served our nation. Anzac Day, the national day of commemoration, marks the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces at Gallipoli in 1915, a battle that saw the loss of over 8,000 Australian lives.

For South Australians, Anzac Day holds a special significance, as it is a time to reflect on the personal connections many have to Defence service. It is an opportunity to pause and acknowledge the dedication and sacrifice of those who have committed themselves to the defense and protection of Australia.

Since the start of the Boer War in 1899, Australian Defence Force personnel have played a crucial role in defense, peacekeeping, humanitarian, and emergency assistance operations worldwide. However, the price of this commitment has been immense, with over 103,000 service personnel losing their lives in service to the nation.

On this day, it is also important to recognize the resilience and unwavering support of veteran families, who form an integral part of the veteran community. Anzac Day can be a challenging time for some veterans and their families, and it is crucial that they know support services are available to them.

Various commemorative services, dawn services, and marches will be held at RSL Sub-branches and memorials across South Australia. In Adelaide, the Dawn Service at the National War Memorial will commence at 6:00 am, followed by the Anzac Day March starting at 9:30 am and concluding at the Service of Remembrance at the Cross of Sacrifice in Pennington Gardens, North Adelaide.
