Three Teenagers Charged Over Hunter Region Carjacking Incident,

A recent carjacking incident in the Hunter Region has led to the arrest and charging of three teenagers. The incident occurred on Saturday, 4th May 2024, when officers from the Newcastle Police District attempted to stop a Suzuki Vitara on Newcastle Road in Jesmond. However, the vehicle failed to stop as directed, resulting in a police pursuit.

The Suzuki was later discovered abandoned on Longworth Avenue, Wallsend, after road spikes were deployed. Three boys, aged 13, 14, and 15, fled from the vehicle and were arrested a short time later. They were taken to Waratah Police Station and released to be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

Further inquiries revealed that the Suzuki was stolen from a shopping center carpark on Tyrell Street, Wallsend, after the driver, a 51-year-old woman, was threatened with a knife. As a result, the 15 and 14-year-old boys were re-arrested and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon and robbery in company. Both have been granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday, 3rd June 2024.

The 13-year-old boy was also re-arrested at Waratah Police Station and charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon and robbery in company. He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children’s court on Monday, 27th May 2024. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being vigilant and taking necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.
