Article:

Two people have been arrested following an investigation into the dumping of seven puppies at Port Adelaide. The incident occurred on Saturday, March 30th, when a concerned citizen reported that seven Red Heeler puppies had been abandoned near Moonta Road, next to the Port River.

The abandoned puppies were fortunate enough to be in good health, and they have since been taken to a reputable rescue organization, where they will be cared for until they find their forever homes.

The South Australia Police appealed to the public for assistance in locating the vehicle responsible for dumping the puppies in the area. Thanks to the support of the community, an arrest has now been made. A 51-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, both residing in Athol Park, have been taken into custody and charged with seven counts of ill-treatment of an animal.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Western District CIB detectives and the RSPCA visited the suspects’ residence in Athol Park. During the search, three additional dogs were seized from the property. The police also discovered the vehicle believed to have been used in the puppy dumping incident.

The two individuals have been granted bail and are scheduled to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 4th to face the charges. Meanwhile, the police express their gratitude to the public for their support throughout the investigation.

This case highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and the need to protect animals from cruel treatment. Dumping puppies or any animal is not only illegal but also extremely heartless. It is crucial for communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may involve animal abuse or neglect.
