Victorian Government Invests $13 Billion in Public Healthcare, Ensuring Accessible and High-Quality Care for Families

Australia, VIC

Article: The Allan Labor Government in Victoria is making a record investment of $13 billion into the state’s public health system, guaranteeing that Victorian families have access to excellent healthcare close to home. This substantial funding boost, outlined in the Victorian Budget 2024/25, will support the delivery of world-class healthcare, improved facilities, and state-of-the-art equipment for all residents.

Since coming to power in 2014, the Victorian Government has already allocated an additional $59.3 billion towards enhancing the healthcare system. However, the ongoing impact of the pandemic has highlighted the need for further resources. As a result, this budget includes the largest multi-year investment in the history of Victoria’s healthcare system, providing hospitals with funding certainty as they navigate current and future challenges posed by a growing and aging population.

A significant portion of the investment, $8.8 billion, will initiate transformative changes in hospital funding, enabling more efficient and effective delivery of world-class care and long-term planning. Additionally, $146.3 million will be allocated to support the ambulance service, ensuring timely care closer to home. This funding will alleviate pressure on the paramedic workforce and support essential services like Ambulance Victoria’s Secondary Triage and Medium Acuity Transport Service.

To further enhance healthcare services, $1.7 billion has been designated for the construction and upgrade of hospitals and health facilities across the state. Notably, the Monash Medical Centre expansion, worth $535 million, will include a new seven-storey tower equipped with operating suites, birthing suites, and pre and post-op beds.

With these historic investments, the Victorian Government aims to provide accessible, high-quality healthcare for all residents and meet the evolving needs of the population.
