Energy Innovation, Designed And Made In Victoria

The Victorian Government is backing a groundbreaking energy innovation project called the H2PowerBox, a mobile power generator that combines solar and renewable hydrogen to provide reliable zero-emissions, off-grid energy. The project, developed by the Clayton Hydrogen Technology Cluster (Clayton H2), received funding of $100,000 from the Victorian Government to establish a network of hydrogen clusters across the state.

Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio unveiled the H2PowerBox, a trailer-mounted power system equipped with innovative technology that can provide disaster relief and support remote communities independently of traditional water sources. The H2PowerBox features ultra-efficient solar panels, a high-performance electrolyser for separating hydrogen from water, and a fuel cell for providing power to remote areas.

By partnering with GreenRen Power and Deloitte Emissions Solutions, Clayton H2 aims to offer 24/7 power supply without the drawbacks of diesel generators, including emissions, cost volatility, supply issues, and high maintenance.

The Victorian Government’s New Energy Jobs Fund, which has a budget of $20 million, aims to support projects that create long-term sustainable jobs, increase the uptake of renewable energy, reduce emissions, and drive innovation in new energy technologies. The H2PowerBox project aligns with these goals and showcases Victoria’s leadership in the development and manufacturing of cutting-edge renewable energy solutions.

The manufacturing of the H2PowerBox will be carried out by Decon Corporation in Melbourne, which received $96,830 from the Government’s New Energy Jobs Fund last year to develop an alternating current version of its Smart Power Cell. This environmentally-friendly solution integrates solar, wind, battery, and a diesel charger into a compact system, reducing the reliance on diesel or other fuel sources.

Minister Lily D’Ambrosio emphasized that the H2PowerBox is a standout example of innovative Victorian design and manufacturing in the renewable energy transition. Member for South-Eastern Metropolitan Region Lee Tarlamis expressed pride in supporting this exciting energy innovation that strengthens regional energy resilience while reducing emissions.

With the H2PowerBox, Victoria is taking significant strides towards a sustainable and resilient energy future, demonstrating that renewable energy innovation is thriving in the state.
