Victorian Government’s Budget 2024/25: Investing in Services for Families

One notable initiative is the expansion of the Digital Driver Licence program. After a successful pilot in Ballarat, all Victorians will soon have the option to carry their driver’s license on their phone. This digital solution aims to make tasks like renting a car, collecting a parcel, or visiting a licensed venue more convenient.

The government is also prioritizing cyber security, investing $34.7 million in this area. A Cyber Defence Centre (CDC) has been established, and an additional $10.8 million will be provided to support the CDC’s response to cyber incidents and enhance data security for Victorians.

To address cost-of-living pressures, the Labor Government will introduce the Savings Finder on the Service Victoria app. This feature will assist people in finding the best prices on healthcare, energy, and other household costs. Additionally, financial counseling will be available through Consumer Affairs Victoria.

Furthermore, the budget allocates $19.3 million to the Victorian Asbestos Eradication Agency, ensuring the safe removal and disposal of asbestos in government-owned buildings. Collaboration with national agencies and support for organizations assisting asbestos-related disease victims will also continue.

In a bid to prevent mental injuries, particularly in the public sector, the government will invest $2.1 million to support government departments and agencies in creating mentally healthier workplaces. This initiative includes strengthening workplace health and safety regulations.

The Rental Stress Support Package, part of the Labor Government’s Housing Statement, will receive an $8 million investment. This funding will support community organizations that provide financial counseling, advocacy, and legal assistance to renters experiencing stress.

Lastly, the budget will allocate $6.8 million to continue financial counseling services for victim-survivors of family violence. This investment aims to alleviate financial stress for those rebuilding their lives after experiencing domestic abuse.
