At least 28 children and one teacher were killed after the roof of a private school collapsed in Dir Colony, Peshawar, according to a statement released on 15 October 2026 by UNICEF Representative in Pakistan, Pernille Ironside. The incident also resulted in injuries to more than 50 children, with most of the child victims reported to be under the age of 14.

Following the collapse, UNICEF extended condolences to the affected families and stated that it stands ready to assist the government's response by offering psycho-social support to impacted children, families, and communities.

The agency called for urgent measures to ensure that both public and private schools comply with building safety standards and undergo regular safety inspections, emphasizing the need for strict enforcement to prevent similar incidents in the future.
