Construction Passes Halfway Mark on $17 Million Social Housing Project in Morisset

Construction on a 15-home social housing development in Morisset, within the Lake Macquarie Local Government Area, has passed the halfway mark, the NSW Government announced. The $17 million project is scheduled for completion in mid-2027 and is expected to house more than 40 residents.

The development converts previously vacant land into nine two-bedroom and six three-bedroom townhouses near local amenities, schools, parks, and the Morisset train station. Additionally, community housing provider Evolve Housing will construct four Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) units on the site, featuring self-contained living areas, communal facilities, and dedicated support spaces for people with disabilities.

According to the NSW Government, the Morisset build is part of a broader plan that has 27 new homes slated for completion across the Lake Macquarie LGA by mid-2027. It also forms part of the government's $6.6 billion Building Homes for NSW program, which aims to deliver 8,400 public housing homes, 21,000 affordable and market homes, and upgrades to 30,000 existing social properties.

The project is receiving support through the federal Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF). Housing Australia CEO Sarah Amos noted that the agency is partnering with Evolve Housing to help expand housing supply, while Evolve Housing Group CEO Lyall Gorman highlighted the role of HAFF funding in extending social housing delivery into the Lake Macquarie region.
