Two Men Charged After Allegedly Boarding Offshore Gas Platform Near Exmouth
Two men, aged 48 and 52, have been charged following a multi-agency operation that removed them from an offshore gas platform located approximately 200 kilometres off Exmouth, Western Australia.
The men were charged with interfering with offshore petroleum installations or operations under section 603 of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006. The offence carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment.
According to the Australian Border Force, the charges relate to the alleged unlawful access of the platform. The two individuals were safely removed from the facility without injury and transported to Western Australia as part of a joint operation involving government agencies and industry partners.
Authorities noted that offshore petroleum facilities are complex and potentially hazardous, stating that unauthorised access is unlawful and poses safety risks to both workers and trespassers.
The two men are scheduled to appear before the Karratha Magistrates Court on Monday, 19 October 2026. Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
