The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the World Bank Group signed an updated memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand their operational cooperation during the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok. The agreement was signed by AIIB President Zou Jiayi and World Bank President Ajay Banga.

According to the AIIB, the updated MOU targets several core sectors for enhanced collaboration, including water projects, digital development, private capital mobilization, and policy-based financing. The two multilateral institutions plan to combine their resources and expertise to secure additional funding for sustainable development initiatives.

Zou stated that the partnership aims to leverage complementary strengths to mobilize capital for high-impact projects, assisting economies in developing greener, more resilient, and interconnected infrastructure.

The AIIB noted that it currently stands as the largest co-financier of the World Bank. Both organizations stated that the renewed agreement reinforces their ongoing efforts to address global infrastructure gaps and support inclusive economic growth.
