The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) issued a statement on 21 October 2026 condemning drone strikes that took place on 19 October 2026 near Amiet Market and Todach, roughly 15 kilometres from Abyei town. According to the peacekeeping mission, the attack resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, alongside multiple people reported missing.

UNISFA echoed the UN Secretary-General's strong condemnation of the strikes, describing the incident as a serious threat to peace and security in the region. The mission noted that the casualty count is expected to rise as efforts to assess the area and evacuate victims continue.

In response to the strikes, UNISFA reported that it is implementing measures to enhance local security, including increasing day and night patrols to safeguard civilians. Peacekeepers have also been deployed to provide emergency medical aid, assist with casualty evacuations, and extinguish large fires caused by the attacks.

The mission expressed concern over the targeting of civilians, extended condolences to the victims' families, and urged all involved parties to avoid retaliatory measures that could further destabilise the area or threaten civilian lives. UNISFA stated that it remains committed to fulfilling its mandate to foster peace and stability in Abyei while continuing to monitor the situation in coordination with local communities and authorities.
