Queanbeyan Hospital Secures Over $810,000 for Solar Power Upgrades
The Minns Labor Government has announced more than $810,000 in funding for Queanbeyan Hospital to deliver minor capital works, specifically the installation of a roof-mounted solar power system. The project is designed to reduce the hospital's reliance on grid electricity and contribute to regional emissions reduction goals.
The allocation for the Southern NSW Local Health District comes from the New South Wales Government's broader $12 million Regional Health Minor Works Program. The initiative, running over two years, aims to fund essential infrastructure upgrades across regional, rural, and remote health facilities throughout the state.
According to NSW Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park, the program is intended to address infrastructure needs, improve amenities for staff and patients, and assist in delivering regional healthcare services. The funding is part of a wider $11.9 billion commitment announced in the 2026-27 Budget to upgrade or build 32 hospitals across NSW, which includes nearly $3 billion over four years dedicated to regional hospitals.
Member for Monaro Steve Whan said the investment will help manage the high energy costs required to operate the hospital and health service while supporting local infrastructure priorities.
