The Minns Labor Government has announced $590,000 in funding for minor capital works across health facilities in the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales. The funding, allocated to the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD), will support infrastructure upgrades at two facilities located in Nowra.
The investment is part of the broader $12 million Regional Health Minor Works Program, which is being rolled out over two years to upgrade health facilities in regional, rural, and remote areas across the state.
Under the funding package, works will be carried out at two locations:
- Shoalhaven Family Care Centre, Nowra: Refurbishment works aimed at modernising the facility and expanding clinical spaces to improve patient access and service delivery.
- Nowra Community Health Centre: Refurbishments to reconfigure existing spaces to assist multidisciplinary staff teams and improve service delivery.
According to the NSW Government, the Regional Health Minor Works Program aims to maintain essential infrastructure and upgrade amenities for patients and healthcare staff across regional communities. The initiative sits alongside an $11.9 billion state budget commitment for 32 new or upgraded hospitals, which includes nearly $3 billion over four years dedicated to regional NSW hospitals.
Minister for Regional Health and Minister for the Illawarra and the South Coast Ryan Park stated that the program focuses on essential infrastructure to deliver improved healthcare access locally. Member for South Coast Liza Butler and Member for Kiama Katelin McInerney noted that the upgrades will provide practical improvements to working environments and patient spaces in the region.
